What is RAID Data Recovery?

There are a number of different types of data recovery services available today. This stems from the fact that business today is highly dependent on data in order to gain profit.

Many people are confused when they encounter the term “RAID data recovery”. Most people encounter this term when they are trying to find a data recovery service that will help them with their data loss.

RAID stands for “Redundant array of inexpensive disks”. This is a technical term for a lot of small hard drives combined in a specific ways to do the work of one big hard drive. This means that you get the fastest possible hard drive in your system. One problem with RAID systems, however, is the fact that when it crashes, it crashes hard. You may have a very difficult time trying to find a company that specializes in RAID data recovery.

The success of RAID data recovery often depends on the type of array you have. You see, different types of systems need different types of RAID data recovery techniques and often meet different problems during the process of data recovery.

Here are some types of RAID systems:

1) RAID 0 –striped set

This type of RAID system makes use of the multiple disks by storing data on them alternately. This means that this array makes full use of the individual drives. Other RAID systems duplicate data on each of the drives, which means that your storage space is limited by each of the drives.

The only requirement for RAID data recovery of this type is that all of the drives must be addressable.

2) RAID 1

In this array, the individual disks are used in such a manner that secures your data. This is because the array “mirrors” or duplicates all of the data on each disk. This configuration speeds up the reading process, but slows down the writing of data. This configuration, of course, presents no advantage regarding storage size. There are a number of problems encountered with RAID data recovery of this type. One major problem with this RAID array arises from the fact that the different drives are duplicates of each other.

Since the different drives are virtual mirrors of each other, there is a chance that the software error will duplicate itself on the other drives. Of course, this is only a problem in the case of a software malfunction such as that caused by a virus.

3) RAID 5

This array attempts to combine the features of the two other raid arrays. The technical jargon can be a bit complicated, but in essence, this array attempts to provide the user with a large storage space and fast reading time.

There are a number of problems which can arise during this type of RAID data recovery. Chief among them are:

a) When one drive is marked as bad by the card, the whole array is degraded. If the drive is forced online, the data is corrupted, making the RAID data recovery impossible.

b) The wrong drive is used as a starting point for an automatic rebuild.

c) The individual drives are taken out of the array and put back in the wrong order.

These are just some of the problems that can go wrong with RAID data recovery. As you can see, RAID data recovery is no child’s play. However, when you look at the number of RAID data recovery services out there, you can actually feel that there is hope, no matter what the damage is.
